Cheongju Mayor Lee Beom-seok strongly urged Hanwha Eagles to allocate Cheongju home games.
However, the Hanwha team officially stated that Cheongju Baseball Stadium is difficult to provide quality services to players, and a conflict is being formed.메이저놀이터
Mayor Lee told reporters on the 19th, "The city of Cheongju has spent 12 billion won over the past 10 years to improve its facilities as demanded by KBO and Hanwha clubs, and it is a betrayal of Cheongju fans not to allocate home games to Cheongju," and stressed, "We should continue to allocate games for Cheongju fans who have cheered passionately regardless of their performance."
"The city is working on concrete measures, such as requesting research services to improve underdeveloped facilities," he said. "Hanwha has yet to make a final decision, but I hope it will not disappoint Cheongju fans."
Until recently, the city sent an official letter to Hanwha asking them to hold six games at Cheongju Baseball Stadium this year twice, but they have yet to hear a definite answer even though the regular season is just around the corner.
In the 2010s alone, Hanwha played at least five games and as many as 12 games at Cheongju Baseball Stadium.
Cheongju City failed to host Hanwha's home games in 2020-2022 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, and failed to pass the due diligence of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) in 2023, but was allocated six games in five years last year.
Cheongju Baseball Stadium is Hanwha's second stadium based in Chungcheong Province and has about 10,000 seats.
Shortly after Mayor Lee's remarks came out, Hanwha issued a statement saying, "I could not afford to discuss with Cheongju City because I poured out my administrative power in preparation for the opening of the new stadium."
"Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Cheongju Baseball Stadium is difficult to provide high-quality services to fans as well as to home and away players, and there is no alternative to installing seats and advertisements to fans who have purchased season tickets for sky boxes and central seats," he stressed.
He also said, "It is difficult to reduce the Daejeon game due to the contractual relationship between numerous self-employed and small business owners who entered Daejeon Stadium."
It has not been confirmed whether Hanwha's position officially means that it will be difficult to allocate home games to Cheongju this year as well as in the future, but Hanwha's home games this season are likely to be played at Daejeon New Stadium.
